'Fine Flower Work' ('Feine Blumenarbeit'), the lace which our second Queen, the wife of Léopold II, thought so beautiful that it was named after her. 'Fine Flower Work' is honoured with the name “Duchesse”. It is a part lace. The small flowers are very stylised and linked by plaits.
This lace was made in both Bruges and Brussels. The main difference is that Bruges Duchesse is made exclusively in bobbin lace whereas Brussels Duchesse has a medallion in needle lace, which makes it a mixed lace.
This is a beginners' course in 'Fine Flower Work' ('Bruges Duchesse').
Note: you must have some experience of working part lace.
No prior knowledge? Don’t worry. Veerle Meersschaut also teaches a preparatory course.
In the 'Fine Flower Work' workshop we examine different techniques, including the path of the gimp, using a pivot pin, taking pairs invisibly from one part to the next, the rosary, setting up at a point, etc.
After this course you will be able to work beautiful pieces of lace. A course for improvers will follow later.
