Satine is a tropical hardwood species native to South America, mainly found in Brazil and French Guiana. It is also known by the names Bloodwood or Pau Satine.

The color of Satine is striking: when freshly cut, it ranges from deep red to orange-red, gradually darkening over time to a rich, dark red with a beautiful natural sheen. This natural luster makes Satine highly valued for decorative purposes.

The wood has a fine to moderately fine grain and a uniform, sometimes slightly wavy texture, giving the surface a silky appearance. Satine is hard and dense, with excellent wear resistance.

Due to its high density, it can be somewhat difficult to work; sharp tools are essential. When sanded and polished, its characteristic sheen emerges beautifully.

The heartwood generally falls into natural durability class II–III, meaning it is well resistant to fungi and insect attack when used indoors.
